Every year the Polaris Music Prize rewards the best full-length Canadian album based on artistic merit, regardless of genre, sales, or record label. Hosted by CBC Music’s Raina Douris, the 14th annual edition of the ceremony took place at The Carlu in Toronto on September 16, 2019. Nine of the ten shortlisted acts performed: PUP, Les Louanges, Marie Davidson, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Shad, FET.NAT, Elisapie, Dominique Fils-Aimé and Haviah Mighty (winner of the 2019 prize, presented by 2018 winner Jeremy Dutcher). To ensure the popular gala’s technical needs were met, and that the live broadcast on CBC would be as spectacular as the talent of the artists being showcased, the Polaris Music Prize relied on Solotech to provide the live production solutions and services.
The Production design was by handled by award-winning firm Luz Design. Led by Mike Smythe, Project Manager, Live Productions Division, Solotech’s Toronto team provided audio, video, lighting, rigging and soft goods solutions and services for this special gala event. They supplied Ayrton Mistral LED spot fixtures, GLP Impression X4 wash fixtures, and GLP JDC-1 LED Strobes. On the video side, the Solotech package included a SACO S6 LED video wall, Martin Sceptron10 LED fixtures and large-venue Christie 30K HD projectors.
Robert Kennedy, Account Executive, Live Productions Division at Solotech, commented, “The Polaris Music Prize is at the heart of Canadian music culture, and we’re proud to support the event and all of the artists that are nominated.”
