Solotech At The Ivy Asia in Leeds

2022-2023

Solotech has completed the latest in a series of audio installs for the Ivy Group at their new restaurant ‘Ivy Asia’ in Leeds.

The original Ivy restaurant opened in London in 1917 and became world renowned for its celebrity clientel. Since 2014 the has company opened over 30 spin off venues, including a number of ‘Ivy Asia’ restaurants offering luxurious Asian-inspired food and drink.

Solotech has an established relationship with the Ivy chain and was commissioned to design and install the audio system for their most recent addition, The Ivy Asia in Leeds.

The Asia themed restaurants feature bespoke high end interior design. As a result the audio package needed to seamlessly integrate with the décor. Solotech Project Development Manager, Dan Seal, specified Bose Professional Design Max ceiling loudspeakers throughout, which were RAL matched to the colour of the ceilings.

At the heart of the system is a QSC Q-Sys Nano Core which provides digital signal processing, routing, and system control throughout the restaurant. QSC TSC 50 touch screens complete with custom graphical interfaces (GUIs) allow the staff to control volume and input sources from a simple menu.

The restaurant runs across three floors; ground floor reception, first floor dining and bar, and a private dining room on the second floor. Each area has been configured as a separate zone with music selection and volume controlled independently by the Q-Sys DSP. The private dining room also has local inputs so guests can select their own playlists.

The main restaurant area and private dining room feature DesignMax DM8C speakers throughout, with a mix of Bose Professional and K-Array subs camouflaged under the seating to provide low frequency coverage. Reception, corridors, and toilets are covered by the more compact DM2C speakers, with the units all powered by Powersoft Quattrocanali 4804 DSP amplifiers. A single K-Array Kommander KA14 provides amplification for the K-Array subs.

Solotech has also installed a Pioneer DJ set-up for events where more than background music is required. The system comprises a pair of CDJ3000s with a DJM 900NXS2 for mixing and Genelec studio monitors for monitoring.

Dan Seal commented, “Solotech has supplied a system that seamlessly integrates with the décor yet provides high fidelity audio at all levels from subtle background music to the high SPL levels of DJ sets.

It was great to work with the Ivy team on this latest project and we look forward to working with them again in the near future.”
