Country to Country at London’s O2 Arena

2023

Solotech once again supplied the audio system for C2C, Country to Country festival that took place at the O2 Arena in London.

Since its inaugural year at the O2 Arena in 2013, Country to Country has developed into a three-day event that runs simultaneously in London, Glasgow and Dublin with one line up rotating round the three venues over the weekend. The events attract a daily audience of over 50,000 with performances from the cream of America’s country music scene. This year’s headline acts for the three days were Thomas Rhett, Lady A, Zac Brown Band, Jordan Davis, Midland, and Old Crow Medicine Show.

Solotech supplied the full audio system for the London shows, opting once again for an L-Acoustics K-Series solution. Main L-R hangs comprised 14 L-Acoustics K1 with 4xK2 as underhangs with side hangs of 4xK1 and 12xK2 delivering the required 180 degree coverage. For sub-bass, Solotech Senior Hire Manager Dan Bennett specified a ground array of 28 KS28s in front of the stage apron, with 8xK1SB per side flown directly behind the main L-R hangs to ensure even sub coverage to the rear of the Arena.

On stage featured side fills of 3 x ARCS2 with 2 x KS28 per side and L-Acoustics X15 wedge monitors to supplement the artists own IEM systems

As part of the standard festival package, Solotech supplied a pair of Avid S6L-24C consoles at front of house for the visiting acts who opted not to bring a control package, while over on stage a pair of Yamaha CL5s were available for monitor engineers.

To ease turnarounds on the main stage, the festival features a B Stage that is situated just behind the FOH position. Artists perform acoustic sets here between the acts on the main stage, with Solotech supplying a Yamaha CL5 for both the FOH and monitor mixes.

In addition to supplying the festival audio package, Solotech were also commisioned to supply control packages for Midland and Lady A who closed out the Saturday night.

Texas based Midland are a 3 piece band in the studio but expand to six members for live performances. At FOH Solotech provided a Yamaha PM7 console with an AVID S6L 24C specified for monitors. The band used Shure PSM 1000 in-ear-monitors (IEMs) with ten channels of RF available for the monitor mixes, while Shure Axient delivered 8 channels of RF for the backline and radio microphones.

Saturday night headliners were multi award winning Lady A from Tennesee. The band’s control package centered around an Allen & Heath dLive S7000 at FOH with a Soundcraft Vi 7000 delivering the monitor mixes. Again Shure PSM 1000 was deployed for wireless IEM with Shure Axient RF for backline and vocal inputs. Microphones, line system, and Clear-Com comms completed the package.

Dan Bennett commented, “C2C traditionally marks the start of our festival season. While it takes place indoors, it features the same flip-flop desks and drive system that we use throughout the summer. One of the challenges we face with C2C is that the artists who perform at the O2 have performed in Dublin the night before. Getting their backline and control systems on site includes an overnight ferry which means the equipment only arrives last minute.”

“It was great to work with the C2C production team and we look forward to the next one.”
