Improving Communication at ACC Liverpool with Clear-Com

2023

ACC Liverpool has invested in a comprehensive Clear-Com production communications package supplied by Solotech UK Group.

ACC Liverpool, part of the ACC Liverpool Group, is an outstanding conference and event venue on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront. Opened in May 2008, the multi-purpose event complex consists of an interconnected arena, convention, and exhibition centre , playing a key role in the city’s economy.

ACC LIverpool Auditorium

Within the ACC lies a 1,500-seat multi purpose auditorium used for touring shows and productions, including business conferences, gigs, theatre, and an annual pantomime. The existing communications package was a wired two-wire system that had been in place since the venue opened. No longer fit for purpose, funding was secured for a full replacement to a meet the venues needs for its diverse range of events.

“We looked at a variety of manufacturers,” explained Nicky Norman, Head of Production and ICT Services at the ACC. “Considering the available budget and the required technical specifications, it became apparent that Clear-Com Arcadia was the obvious choice. The fact that we could interface it with our old Clear-Com system if required is an added bonus.”

Clear-Com Arcadia

At the heart of the new package are a pair of Clear-Com Arcadia Central Stations: one installed in the auditorium and the other available as a mobile unit for deployment in other spaces within the ACC when required. The Arcadia Central Station forms the centrepiece of a scalable IP networked intercom platform that will support over 100 wired and wireless intercom stations.

ACC has chosen 20 x Helix-Net HXII-BP wired belt packs and 6 x FSE-BP50 wireless belt packs. The wired Helix-Net units connect via EtherCon cable and can run over standard Ethernet structured cabling within a building. Additionally, a single Helix-Net HKB-2X speaker station has been installed in the stage manager’s desk. A variety of on-ear and over-ear Clear-Com headsets have been purchased and are compatible with all the base station units.

Included with the system were battery chargers, a selection of EtherCon cables, and a pair of FreeSpeak FSE-TCVR-50 wireless transceivers for signal distribution to the wireless belt packs.

Nathan Lewis, Senior Technician, Sound at ACC, commented, “Arcadia gives us an extremely flexible system. The combination of wired and wireless means we can deploy wired comms at static locations such as the lighting and audio consoles, the follow spots, and the fly-bars, and then we can use wireless for crew who need to move around the venue.”

“The digital signal ensures great speech clarity, and the 5G coverage ensures good reception throughout the venue. The system is scalable, and we can set up multiple groups within the system, so, for example, we can have lighting comms, audio comms, and then the stage manager can speak to all groups.”

Mark Day, Solotech Senior Sales Executive, summed up the sale: “Clear-Com Arcadia and the associated accessories are the perfect replacement for the existing Comms system. It is a like for like solution that is easy to setup, use and has great audio quality.”

“We’re delighted to have supplied ACC Liverpool with this system and hope we can work with them again in the near future.”
