Montreal, Quebec, April 11, 2024 – Solotech’s Outernet London installation has been awarded LAVNCH [CODE]’s 2024 Out of This World Experiences Award! The award highlights next-level experiences that use technology in new and creative ways.  

Named as “London’s most visited tourist attraction” by The Times newspaper in 2023, Outernet has attracted 6.25 million of visitors in its inaugural year. Featuring giant LED screens inside and out, it is the largest digital exhibition space in Europe. Solotech collaborated closely with consultants Hoare Lea to design the immersive audio system that features a QSC Q-Sys network audio system and L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive sound system sitting at the heart of this installation.

Something a little different for our installation teams recently as Solotech, in partnership with Curload Consultants, started work 80m below ground at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) on the Swiss/French border.

As long-term partners to CERN, Solotech has been tasked with providing a comprehensive design study to deliver Voice Alarm cover for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).  The initial focus has been to test out loudspeaker types, models and spacings along the 27km LHC main tunnel. Project Manager, Ben Green, can be seen putting his back into two road cases of speakers, tools and testing equipment.

Included in the survey is the 10+ storey escape stairs and a range of noisy service areas.  The CERN site is extremely complex and spread out over a wide area, with a room count over 1400, over 8 main access sites, and 4 very large experiment halls.

Solotech Business Development Manager, Paul Malpas, is leading the electroacoustic design services, bringing 30 years experience of developing strategies for critical speech amplification in extreme acoustic environments.  The Solotech models have been developed in the latest EASE 5, using AURA 4 as an essential tool for acoustic propagation in tunnels.

Sarah Radcliffe, Director of Curload Consultants, first brought the opportunity to Solotech and was pivotal in securing the framework appointment.  Sarah is very much ‘hands on’ with the process and is pictured preparing and setting out the speaker candidates for experiments and demonstrations to safety strategists at CERN.

Solotech has installed an L-Acoustics solution in the live room at Marshall Studios part of the legendary Marshall operation in Milton Keynes England

Marshall started out simply because musicians needed amplifiers. Keen to honour that heritage the company continues to support both up and coming, and established musicians. Over the years they have set up their own record label, live agency and most recently a recording studio in 2021.

Within the studio facility is a live room,  a 250 capacity venue to put on showcases, promotional gigs and do video shoots. Marshall soon realised the venue needed a high-end audio package that would provide a quality in line with the company’s own audio standards.

Studio Manager Adam Bear took time out to explain the story behind the install, the choice of equipment and the advantages of working with Solotech

Christmas Cards

As many of you will know, each year we choose a charity to support in lieu of sending out Christmas cards – this year we have selected the British Red Cross Society.

The British Red Cross is the UK arm of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent. At the heart of their work is providing help to people in crisis, both in the UK and overseas, without discrimination, regardless of their ethnic origin, nationality, political beliefs or religion.

Montreal’s iconic MTELUS venue has raised the sonic bar with the installation of a state-of-the-art L-Acoustics K3 sound system from by Solotech. This 140-year-old venue, renowned for hosting legendary acts, has further enhanced its reputation with a cutting-edge audio offering.

Solotech’s Martin Berthiaume collaborated with MTELUS’ Chief Audio Engineer, Reno Richard, to introduce the L-Acoustics K3 system, now delivering impeccable sound quality to the 2,300-capacity venue. The system, comprised of a left-right configuration with ten K3 flown per side and four KS28 ground-stacked, cardioid-configured subs per side, expertly navigates the venue’s acoustic challenges, including low balconies and unique architectural features.

The successful integration, accomplished within a tight schedule during 2023’s festival season, exemplifies the synergy between Solotech and L-Acoustics engineers. For a venue with a storied history hosting iconic artists, the new L-Acoustics sound system ensures MTELUS continues to be a preferred destination for world-class performances, solidifying its position as a premier live entertainment space.

Wireless Workbench has become an industry standard for managing wireless inventory and coordinating frequencies for events of all sizes, from 2 systems in a house of worship up to 200 systems on a stadium tour (and everything in between!). Join Jack Drury (Market Development) for a full run-through of the software. We’ll cover how to manage an inventory, how to coordinate frequencies and how to monitor your systems during the show. By the end of the day – we’ll work through some real-world examples of complex shows and you’ll leave with all the tools you need to set up and execute a successful coordination.

Solotech is Hosting four L-Acoustics training sessions at their Heywood offices in Greater Manchester.

As an L-Acoustics Accredited Training Centre, Solotech is hosting a series of L-Acoustics training sessions including System & Workflow, K2, KARA II and M1/P1 Measurement and Tuning

For L-Acoustics training, delegates start with System & Workflow, before progressing to modules on system design and control. It is essential that delegates for K-Series and M1-P1 training have completed System & Workflow (or the previously offered System Fundamentals). However it is not necessary to complete both at the same time.

This course introduces the users to the L-Acoustics system approach and project workflow, giving an overview of all L-Acoustics tools and all professional roles involved. That is the prerequisite for all other product training courses.

Recognize the standard configurations of a KARA II or K2 system and gain hands-on experience rigging and listening to them.

M1/P1 Measurement and Tuning

Learn how to record measurements with the P1 processor and how to perform a loudspeaker system tuning with the M1 software.

Yamaha Rivage PM Series

The RIVAGE PM series includes five consoles, two DSP engines, two I/O rack units, and two network protocols. Any of these components can be combined to create systems that match a wide range of application scale and budget requirements.
