How the acclaimed artist, Post Malone, utilised a full 360 solution

Introduction to the 360 Project

With over 80 million album sales worldwide, American rap artist Post Malone can lay claim to being one of the most popular recording artists currently around. In 2020 Post Malone’s Production Manager, Dennis Daneels, turned to Solotech to provide a 360 solution of audio, lighting and video for festival shows around the world, a project sadly cut short by the global pandemic.

As live events slowly began to open up again, Post Malone was booked to headline Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK over the 2021 August Bank Holiday weekend. The Solotech production team decided to use group facilities in the UK as a staging point for the tour package, supplying the audio control and monitors package.

“The show’s set including video and lighting was shipped over from Canada in kit form to our warehouse facility in Hemel Hempstead. The crew then pre-staged and tested the system before loading out for the festival dates. There were no rehearsals in the UK, so throughout we were constantly holding pre-production meetings to ensure the whole package would integrate on site.” Dan Bennet – Hire Manager

Solotech supplied L-Acoustics K3 and more

“From an audio perspective we pretty much replicated the package that’s specified from the US. Demetrius Moore uses a DiGiCo SD7 Quantum at FOH while Travon Snipes opts for a DiGiCo SD5 for monitors. Alongside a full IEM system, we supplied L-Acoustics K3 with KS28 subs as sidefills on stage – the first opportunity we’d had to deploy K3 having taken delivery just the week before. We got regular freelancers Sammy Murphy and Ben Bentley in to prep the system before heading out to Reading and Leeds.” Dan Bennet – Hire Manager

Why connectivity is imperative for a 360 Solution

“Having Hemel Hempstead available to prep the lighting, video and staging meant we could turn the whole project round efficiently, safe in the knowledge that it would all come together when we reached the site. With no UK rehearsals, this was essential as we were working within the confines of a festival environment. Even though the headline artist takes priority you still have that short turnaround before your set to get everything in place and working.” Dan Bennet – Hire Manager

“The whole project worked really well and shows how different aspects of the Solotech operation can collaborate on a global scale. Supplying the audio kit locally not only cuts down on the shipping costs but means we have support available at a moments notice.” Many thanks to the team in the UK for helping bring this all together. I’m sure we’ll get the opportunity to work together on many more projects in the future.”
