Looking to enhance the Canucks fans pre-game experience in 2013, the Rogers Arena hired Solotech to integrate LED bars into the ice-level stanchions along the glass that surrounds the rink.
Brian Konechny and Doug Teramoto from Solotech worked together to design and install the 76 “celebration lights.”
Many challenges were overcome to complete the installation, such as ensuring the safety of the players and avoiding damage to the LED bars following an impact.
Each of the LED pixels are fully-controllable and the Solotech team included the ability to pixel map the whole system that allows video content to be used. “The LEDs had to be very punchy or they would have ended up looking like Christmas lights,” explained Konechny, “So choosing a high-powered LED strip was the key.” Custom modifications such as integrating robust stainless-steel connectors were necessary to meet the site requirements.
Brian Konechny was delighted with the final result: “Seeing it all work for the first time at the home opener was like scoring the winning goal in overtime!”
We'd love to tell you more and collaborate with you!
